The Lagos State Anti-Corruption Coalition (LSACI) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate alleged financial irregularities in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The coalition alleges massive mismanagement of public funds, citing a controversial N17 billion allocation for a gate construction project and alleged misuse of Constituency Intervention and Project Funds.
In a formal petition addressed to the EFCC, the LSACI accused Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa of overseeing the alleged irregularities. According to the coalition, the gate project, estimated by independent experts to cost no more than N15 million, was instead allocated a staggering N17 billion, raising serious concerns about potential fraud.
The petition also pointed fingers at the Clerk of the Assembly, Onafeko Olalekan Biliamin, and alleged that public funds were funneled through companies such as Xenon Construction Ltd and Visible Construction Ltd. LSACI promised to provide additional details about other implicated companies.
The group further expressed concerns about alleged interference in local government projects, including the purported takeover of the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat’s construction by Hon. Nurain Akinsanya of Mushin Constituency 1.
Highlighting rumors of a personal relationship between Speaker Obasa and the EFCC Chairman, the coalition urged the Commission to act impartially and ensure justice prevails.
Key Demands:
LSACI outlined its requests to the EFCC, which include:
1. Investigating the allocation and expenditure of N17 billion for the gate construction project.
2. Examining the use of Constituency Intervention and Project Funds.
3. Taking decisive actions to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance.
The coalition emphasized that public funds must be utilized for the benefit of citizens, not for personal enrichment. Pictures of the alleged N17 billion gate project were reportedly attached to the petition to support their claims.
Sally Hussein, Mobilization Officer of LSACI, expressed confidence in the EFCC’s ability to handle the matter professionally, urging the Commission to act swiftly to prevent further erosion of public trust.
The EFCC has yet to release an official response to these allegations.
