President Tinubu head to China for high-level talks

President Bola Tinubu will pay a state visit to China in the first week of September 2024.

The trip, according to Chen Xiaodong, China’s vice minister of foreign affairs, is at the behest of President Xi Jinping.

State visits are considered the highest level of diplomatic engagement between countries, symbolising strong bilateral relations and cooperation.

During the state trip, Tinubu will also attend the 2024 forum on China–Africa cooperation (FOCAC) scheduled to hold between September 4 and 6.

Established in 2018, the forum serves as an official platform for cooperation between China and African countries with the aim of strengthening the economic and political ties.

The forum holds every three years with the last one held virtually in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
