President Muhammadu Buhari has held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan on Thursday, August 29. Legit.ng gathers that the meeting was held between the two leaders during the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development in Yokohama, Japan. The senior special assistant to President Buhari on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, made the disclosure on via his official Twitter handle on Thursday, August 29. The president also met with EU commissioner in charge of International cooperation and development, Neven Mimica. This was during the signing of an MOU for a new €50 million programme to assist most affected and vulnerable communities in the northeast in Yokohama Japan on Thursday, August 29.
This was on the sideline of the ongoing 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Yokohama, Japan. In another report by Legit.ng, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, August 28, explained the reason for the partial closure of Nigeria’s border with the Benin republic. The president said that the closure was based on the fact that there were massive smuggling activities, especially of rice, happening at the border.
Buhari made this known during his side meeting with the president of Benin, Patrice Talon, at the Seventh Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD7) in Japan. The president expressed grief over the fact that rice smuggling threatens his administration agricultural policies which have tried to ensure self-sufficiency.
