Omoyele Sowore has denied allegations that he received funding from the leader of the IPOB to topple the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari – Sowore said he was never funded by external forces to organise the present administration – The publisher also denied claims that he has visited Dubai or any country in the United Arab Emirates since he was born The publisher of Sahara Reporters’, Omoyele Sowore, has denied claims that he collected money from the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to topple the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration Sowore also denied allegation that he was being sponsored by some external forces to stage a #RevolutionNow protest across major cities in Nigeria. The publisher turned activist and the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC) in the last election said although he met with Kanu in the United States of America, he never received funding from the IPOB leader to, wage war against President Buhari.
Isiguzoro, however, stated: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide is calling on Igbos planning violent protest in Japan to arrest of President Muhammadu Buhari to put off such senseless plot as it endangers the lives and properties of Igbo living in 19 northern states. “Apart from the risk of being jailed or deported from Japan, anything else that happens to Buhari will certainly put Igbos in danger.” Isiguzoro pointed out that most of those sponsoring the planned attack to humiliate Buhari do not have any investment in Nigeria, particularly the south-east. He said: “Igbos are wiser than yesterday. Many IPOB leaders including Nnamdi Kanu do not have investment in the south-east or Biafra land. “Many of them are yet to build house in the south-east. Many of the people staging the protest should remember that they’re the breadwinners of their families in Nigeria. “We should vigorously defend our land while building bridges across the Niger. We are praying for IPOB leaders to repent and stop jeopardizing the peaceful atmosphere we have experienced in the south-east since the war ended in 1970.
Sowore in a process filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja said, the allegations levelled against him by the State Security Services (SSS) is false. He also denied claims that he visited Dubai or any country in the United Arab Emirates since he was born. According to Sowore, the SSS did not know about the meeting with the IPOB leader until it was published on his online newspaper, Sahara Reporters’ with pictorial evidence. The publisher, in an affidavit by a lawyer of the Falana’s chamber, Abubakar Marshal, said Sowore has never been involved in any terrorist activity. He also stated that no evidence whatsoever links Sowore to any terrorist activity. The affidavit read in parts: “That on Tuesday, 2nd July 2019 he met with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a British national in New York City, United States of America and at the end of the said meeting, they both issued a joint press statement.”
“Attacking President Muhammadu Buhari in Japan is not an achievement, but will portray Igbos before the international community as terrorists that we can never be. “Irrespective of that, Igbos are facing political and economic difficulties in Nigeria, coupled with the uprising of insecurity challenges emanating from herdsmen. “We should not worsen the situation by introducing violent protest. It will affect Igbos in the North.”
